This is so sad - NOLA

And the writer hits it pretty straight on.
After_katrina_my_hometown
I have a lot of opinions on the subject especially after my last trip there no longer than a month ago. I will write another post on that trip. But for now, please realize this city is dying and something more needs to happen.

Indie Rock Baseball
Here's my first contribution
Scouting Report: This should be a nice match up. These competitors landed on my desk this week: one unknown indie rocker on a mission, one well known producer who happened to help pen two really popular records this year. They both are albums full of covers of other artists, I’ve never been a fan of these types of records (how many times are the songs better than the original?) but I’ll let’ em play anyway.
Mark Ronson (album: Verison, label: Columbia) comes from a production background where he has made his mark working with heavyweights like Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen. This is his second vanity record and has brought tons of high falutin' artists to back him back him up. Play Ball!
1 God Put a Smile Upon Your Face 3:12 | BALL, 1-0
2 Oh My God 3:35 | BALL, 2-0
3 Stop Me 3:54 | STRIKE, 2-1
4 Toxic 4:05 | HIT, Ol Dirty Bastard got a hold of that one, man on first
5 Valerie Chowd 3:39 | HIT, I thought Amy Winehouse was in rehab who knew she could play ball, Men on 1st & 2nd
6 Apply Some Pressure 3:36 | BALL, 1-0
7 Inversion 1:47 | Almost to short to play but still got a hold of it | HIT, Score 1 run, Men on 1st & 2nd
8 Pretty Green 3:16 | STRIKE, 0-1
9 Just 5:20 | A funky Radiohead cover? You better be happy Jens isn't umping this game | STRIKE, 0-2
10 Amy 3:32 | Whoever let the horn section play on every track just got a warning | BALL, 1-2
11 The Only One I Know 3:59 | FOULED OFF, staying alive (barely) | BALL, 2-2
12 Diversion 1:19 | DNP, too short
13 L.S.F. [Version Revisited] 3:30 | BALL, 3-2
14 Outversion 1:50 | BALL, side retired
A fantastic record collection and amazing production skills can only take you so far. Definitely put this on at your next party when it is time to boogie. Any fans of funky horn sections should buy this ASAP. For Mark Ronson, 1 Run on 3 hits, none left on.
Up Next: Sexton Blake (Album: Plays the Hits, Label: Expunged Records). Mr. Blake (?) takes a unique approach covering these K-TEL hits from the early 80s. The production is very reminiscent of bands like Pinback, Enon & Notwist, electro beats, clean 2 note guitar chords and keys handled by that old Casio that barely works collecting dust in the corner of the practice space. Let's break out the Walkman give it a shot.
1 Hungry Heart 4:26| HIT, You had me at distorted lead line, man on first
2 Bette Davis Eyes 4:09 | HIT, men on first and second
3 Young Turks 4:43 | BALL, 1-0
4 Making Love out of Nothing at All 5:21 | BALL, Novelty is wearing off a bit, 2-0
5 I Need Love 4:06 | Little Modest Mouse-y for my tastes but still connected | HIT, one run in men on 1st & 2nd
6 The Logical Song 3:32 | HIT, I love that freakin' song, 2 runs in men on 1st and 2nd
7 Oh l'Amour 3:15 | BALL, 1-0
8 Girl You Know It's True 4:05 | STRIKE, 1-1
9 Rush Rush 3:48 | HIT, 3 runs in men on 1st and 2nd
10 Daniel 4:31 | BALL, 1-0
11 Evil Woman 4:50 | DOUBLE, 5 runs in man on 2nd
12 Life in a Northern Town 3:39 | BALL, 1-0
13 Human Nature 4:09 | STRIKE, side retired
Not a power hitter but connected on some nice singles. I am a sucker for these covers and I really liked the production style. For Sexton Blake, 5 Runs on 6 hits, no one left.
Your final today: Sexton Blake 5, Mark Ronson 1. Stay tuned for more Indie Rock Baseball.

Think along the lines of the Long Island City beach taxi beach, but bigger and a huge Olympic size pool built into a barge floating on the East River. There are food/drinks available at the beach, but the pool barge 'S.S. Floating Pool Lady" is the place to be. Fortunately, it is filled with fresh heavily chlorinated water not East River water.

Alright Mr. Stern, it's time to raise the effin rims. This guy is going to break his neck. At least implement a rule that if he jumps up to his neck through the net and headbutts an incoming ball it is not goaltending but completely awesome and worth like 4-6 points.
